- Thread Angle:
- BSP: 55° thread angle
- NPT: 60° thread angle
- Thread Shape:
- BSP threads are more rounded at the crest and root.
- NPT threads have a flatter profile.
- Fit Test:
- A BSP male won’t seal correctly with an NPT female.
- Attempting to mate the two can cause leaks or damage.
- Measuring Threads:
- Use a thread pitch gauge and caliper.
- BSP is typically measured in inches (nominal bore) and uses threads per inch (TPI).
- NPT threads are also measured in inches, but the thread taper makes diameter decrease along the length.
