Fire Sleeve Protected Stainless Steel Braided Hose Assemblies: Safety in Extreme Industrial Environments

Fox Global supplies fire sleeve stainless steel braided hose assemblies for high-heat, fire-risk industries. Protect hydraulic, fuel & pneumatic lines.

At Fox Global we take pride in designing and supplying hose assemblies that are not just fit for purpose but engineered to withstand some of the toughest industrial environments in Australia.

Our latest supply project involved a 1-1/2” stainless steel single braided hose assembly, overall length 3500mm, fitted with Type ‘D’ SS316 camlocks welded at both ends, and protected with a full-length fire sleeve.

This hose is now installed as part of a fire-retardant supply line in a waste disposal crushing plant. The application is highly demanding: the hose is located in an area where explosions occur above the recycling crushing system, creating both intense heat and high safety risks.

In such environments, failure is not an option. That’s why the combination of stainless steel braiding, welded camlocks, and fire sleeve protection provides a robust, reliable solution.

The Role of Fire Sleeve Protection

Industrial hoses are often the weakest point in high-risk operations. Exposed to flames, molten splash, sparks, and radiant heat, they can quickly degrade or fail. A fire sleeve provides a simple but highly effective layer of protection.

Construction:

  • Inner layer: Woven fibreglass yarn
  • Outer layer: High-grade silicone rubber coating

Performance Ratings:

  • Continuous working temperature: 260˚C
  • Peak exposure temperature: 1650˚C
  • Resistant to flame, sparks, molten metal splash, and radiant heat
  • Oil, fuel, and moisture resistant

This makes fire sleeves the ideal choice for:

  • Hydraulic hoses
  • Pneumatic lines
  • Fuel and oil hoses
  • Brake hoses
  • Electrical wires and cables

At Fox Global, we use fire sleeve technology to extend the service life of hoses and protect critical fluid transfer systems in dangerous environments.

Why Waste & Recycling Plants Need Fire Sleeve Assemblies

Waste disposal and recycling plants are among the harshest industrial sites. The challenges include:

  1. High Heat & Sparks – Crushing, grinding, and metal separation processes generate extreme friction and high temperatures.
  2. Explosion Risks – Gas pockets, aerosols, and waste containers can ignite, leading to sudden explosions above crushing plants.
  3. 24/7 Operation – Plants run continuously, demanding long-lasting and reliable hose protection.

In this case, the fire sleeve-protected stainless braided hose ensures the fire suppression system remains operational even during explosions and fire events.

Stainless Steel Braided Hose: Strength Meets Flexibility

The backbone of this assembly is the 1-1/2” stainless steel braided hose. These hoses are trusted across industries because they combine durability, flexibility, and resistance to both pressure and corrosion.

Key Advantages:

  • High-pressure capability from stainless braid reinforcement
  • Flexibility to absorb vibration and movement
  • Long service life in tough environments
  • Corrosion resistance with SS316 grade stainless steel

For environments like crushing plants, stainless steel braided hoses provide a level of performance far beyond rubber or composite alternatives.

SS316 Type ‘D’ Camlocks: Secure, Fast, Reliable

This assembly is fitted with SS316 Type ‘D’ camlocks welded at both ends. Camlocks are the gold standard for quick connection and disconnection in industrial fluid transfer.

Why Camlocks?

  • Tool-free connection for fast hose changes
  • Leak-free performance for safety-critical lines
  • SS316 stainless construction for maximum corrosion resistance
  • Welded ends ensure superior strength and reliability

Together with the braided hose and fire sleeve, the camlocks ensure this assembly is built for both ease of use and uncompromising reliability.

Beyond Waste Plants: Where Fire Sleeves Excel

While this project focused on a waste disposal crushing plant, fire sleeve hose assemblies are used across many industries, including:

  • Mining & Quarrying – Protecting hydraulic lines in underground operations.
  • Steelworks & Foundries – Shielding hoses from molten splash and radiant heat.
  • Marine & Offshore – Ensuring fire protection on oil rigs and ships.
  • Aviation – Safeguarding brake and fuel lines from heat and flame exposure.
  • Defence – Fire-protected fuel, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in vehicles and equipment.

Wherever there is heat, sparks, or fire risk, fire sleeve assemblies are the proven choice.
